For the Kids: Subscription Boxes

Written by: Alexus Robertson

Summertime is here and the living is easy. Kids are out of school and the boredom is high!! What do you do with all of that boredom? You have to find a way to take all that pent-up energy and funnel it into something creative and engaging where they are really learning as well. What I have found, that works for me are subscription boxes. Many are monthly and they are always unique, fun, and educational. The kids love them!

Check out these awesome subscription boxes to entertain the kids during the summer and keep them learning at the same time!

Brown Toy Box is working to make STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Accessible, Representative and Fun for Black children! We are creating the next generation of thinkers, creators, and leaders through STEAM education, culturally representative educational materials, and hands-on learning fun for PreK-6 graders.

Bitsbox Coding Each level introduces a new computer science concept with a set of crazy fun app projects that come every month! Learning to program is just like learning any language. The earlier you start, the easier it is. Kids can use Bitsbox as soon as they can read and write.

Legacy Kits is an outstanding teaching mechanism that provides a convenient opportunity to teach history effortlessly. All of the research and planning has already been completed and assembled into enjoyable, engaging kits with STEAM projects. The ideal goal is to enhance each student's historical knowledge and create enthusiastic, lifelong learners. Legacy Kits’ motto is to challenge students to "Think, Inspire, Create."

Our Butterfly Box is a monthly subscription box for girls 4 -19 years of age. Each box comes with a book and other empowering swag as a monthly affirmation to help improve upon self-confidence and a positive self-image for girls of color. Each box contains a book where the main characters are people of color (representation matters!). One or more products from a Black-Owned Business. Other empowering and trendy items.

Annie’s Young Woodworkers Kit Club is a woodworking craft kit series designed for children from 7-12 years of age—the perfect window of opportunity to pass on a love of woodworking to the next generation. Kids will love the feeling of pride and accomplishment that comes with mastering real-world building skills they’ll carry into adulthood.

Those are just some of the options out there, there are plenty of more to choose from and I would encourage everyone to look around and find the ones that work well for you and your kids.

Happy learning!
