Answering the Call to be Social Change Agents

Meet two new members of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) Alliance leadership team, Arizona high school seniors, Sridhana “Sri” Murugan (right) and Camelia Mosor (left).

This organization began in 2021 with then BASIS senior student, Dhanya Lankalapalli, in collaboration with CGEST graduate research assistant, Rachel Ware and undergraduate research assistant, Pranati Guduru. In their roles, Camelia is the curriculum coordinator and Sri is the marketing manager. When asked what made them join the DEI Alliance, they shared how they wanted to be a part of the conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusivity the DEI group promoted. In particular, they talked about how the DEI Alliance provided them a safe space to voice their opinions and listen to perspectives different from our own, which helped them grow as students and as future leaders in their respective communities.

Camelia and Sri describe how being a part of club leadership allows them to advance the aim to promote DEI Alliance’s mission of bringing more people into these conversations. More importantly, they extend the invitation to other high schoolers. If you want to discuss issues like the meaning of diversity, cultural appropriation, or mental health in a safe and inclusive environment, join us every second Tuesday of the month for our equity circles!
