Learning in Libraries Program at Tempe
During the week of October 8-13th, Tempe Public Library hosted the latest Learning in Libraries program, led by librarians Victoria Aguilar and Micah Corporaal for local girls. Over the course of this week, the girls learned about expressive electronics, cultural and social values, and how they can use technology to solve problems in their communities.
This 10-lesson course is a program delivered by local librarians, who are trained in Culturally Responsive Teaching, an approach developed by Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings, that promotes reflection, asset-building, and connectedness for girls of color. Primary investigators Dr. Kimberly Scott and Dr. Patricia Garcia lead the research project.
