New Partners Help bring CompuPower to Summer Program

The CompuPower staff was honored to partner with Access ASU and SPARKS to work with students participating in the East Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Summer Program on the Polytechnic Campus.

During this part of the Summer Program, twenty-one students got to experience a portion of the CompuPower curriculum and build their technology and leadership skills by utilizing GoPros, tripods, and iPads to practice their interview skills for prospective STEM employers. The students first brainstormed the top five verbal and nonverbal behaviors they should exhibit when interviewing for a possible future career in STEM (this list was also supplemented by the amazing examples displayed by the SPARKS staff). They then made an educated guess on the top questions they could be asked.

By utilizing the questions that the group came up, students broke into five or six groups and took turns practicing their interviewing skills. The student being interviewed held onto the iPad (which was linked to their GoPro), view how the camera was positioned, instruct their peers how to reposition the GoPro, and control their video.

The students had an absolute blast, but more importantly, they got to build the skills they already possess to become Technosocial Change Agents. The future is definitely looking bright with these brilliant young scholars leading the way, and the CompuPower staff look forward to working with Access ASU and SPARKS on this program next summer!
