Pilot Launch of AISL

CGEST is excited to announce that our NSF-funded project Advanced Informal STEM Learning (AISL) completed its pilot phase in October 2020. The AISL project is developing a socially programmable robot that can move around, wave, and speak. The robot will be integrated into the CompuPower program and act as a tool for girls and young women of color to learn computer science skills. The Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona participated in a three-week pilot camp in which they used the robot to learn coding skills through the lens of social justice. Researchers observed the camp and took notes for improvements that will inform the CompuPower curriculum in the Spring of 2021.

CGEST thanks the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University for their critical contributions to the AISL project.
